INTERNATIONAL MOUNTAIN LEADER
An internationally recognised mountaineering qualification
The Union of International Mountain Leaders Association was born from a European Union Directive designed to encourage the development of common standards for professional mountain leaders throughout Europe. It was drawn up in recognition of the growing requirement for mountaineers to work in areas where skilled mountain leadership is necessary for clients to enjoy journeys through remote mountain areas in safety and confidence.
BAIML represents the UK at UIMLA, which has its administrative headquarters in France. BAIML works with its sister organisations throughout member countries worldwide as the international governing body, to develop and promote its common platform standard for training and assessment, and common professional ethic for those choosing to lead individuals and groups.
